I was excited when I first got this bike. Assembly was easy enough and the bike looks good. But it was all downhill from there. The bike comes with coaster brakes (pedal backwards), but they simply do not work well. It takes a shocking amount of distance to stop on level surfaces at normal speeds, and it is literally impossible to stop when going downhill (e.g. into an underground parking garage). In addition, the chain seems to have a habit of popping off. I guess the inability to pedal the bike sort of takes care of the braking problem though. Overall, if you want a bike that can be powered by pedaling, and can stop on the off chance it does get moving, get something else.

I purchased this recently for an inexpensive back-up bicycle. As the first reviewer said, it was easy to assemble, taking less than 30 minutes. However, the distributor did not provide for enough bracing for the wheels in shipping. As a result, the front wheel needed to be "re-trued." I have done this a number of times, so it only took about 15 minutes. However, for the novice, they may need to take it to a bicycle shop, paying about $10-12. My daughter has a more expensive beach cruiser, allowing for a comparison. This Pacific Oceanside is definitely more flimsy. I think the chain will need to be tightened. Like the other reviewer stated, the brake seems weak and unreliable, and this could be a safety hazard because of the defect. I may install a front brake to be on the safe side. When all of the additions are done, I likely will spend as much as I would have on a Schwinn or Huffy. Avoid the Pacific Oceanside.

First let me say that I am 46 and haven't ridden a bike in over 15 years due to the pain in my manhood area. I wanted to give it another try so I bought this bike despite the poor reviews (mainly because of its low price and I'm a tightwad).
It was packed very well and extremely easy to assemble. I agree with the other reviews that the brake is lacking for sure. I bought one of those gel pad seats (from WalMart) that is easy on your personals to put on this bike. That seat, along with the extended handle bars, make it very easy for me to ride upright, and most importantly pain free.
For the record, I'm 6'4" and 255 lbs. This bike easily accommodates my size and weight.
This bike is ok if you are riding leisurely on paved level surfaces. If you are riding hills or need speed then you probably want to skip this bike. This is an old geezers bike and is not for kids.
