TerraTrike Rover 8 Recumbent Trike Reviews
75 of 75 people found the following review helpful Fun to ride and comfortable, August 19, 2010 By Captainbob (Atlanta) - See all my reviews This review is from: TerraTrike Rover 8 Recumbent Trike (Misc.) First of all, I have been riding 2 wheeled Recumbent bikes for about 13 years, and ride about 100+ miles a week, even though I am a very senior citizen.
My Rover was due to be trucked to my home tomorrow, but I couldn't wait so I drive to the trucking Depot at Atlanta Airport to pick it up. I drove up in my Toyota Matrix, and I had already checked the box dimensions that UtahTrike packed it in, so I knew it would stick out the back of my car about a foot, but otherwise it fit well. We loaded it my car, strapped the back deck down and off I went. When I got home, I had it out of the box in about 5 minutes. It was totally assembled and packed very well.
About the seat, I love the higher seat position. I had toyed with the idea of getting another model of Trike, with a much lower seat, and am I glad I got the Rover instead. It is so easy to get in and out of, and you don't feel like you have to dive bomb yourself into the seat and crawl out of it. I played with the seat... Read more
43 of 43 people found the following review helpful Great for bad knees too~!, January 3, 2011 By This review is from: TerraTrike Rover 8 Recumbent Trike (Misc.) I bought my TerraTrike Rover 8 a bit over a month ago.
The short version:
I love it, and would buy it again~! It is exactly as advertised
The long version:
Reasons why I chose the TerraTrike Rover 8 instead of another;
Seat Height - most 'tadpole' style trikes (2 wheels in front, one in back) have low seating, as in 8 to 9 inches off the ground. The Rover's seat is 18.5 inches off the ground. Much easier to get into and out of.
Price - I wished to stay at the lower end of the price range, but still get a great trike with a LIFETIME warrenty.
Weight limit - I am a big guy, and wanted to buy a trike I wouldn't have to worry about killing - the weight limit for the Rover is 400lbs.
TerraTrike Customer Service is great! Whether by phone, email, or their forum, they are quick to reply, and are very, very helpful with any questions you may have.
Other folks that have the Rover call it the pickup... Read more
42 of 44 people found the following review helpful Neat but limited, August 24, 2010 By S J D (FL) - See all my reviews This review is from: TerraTrike Rover 8 Recumbent Trike (Misc.) I bought a Rover8 and took it back to the shop to trade it in on a TerraTrike Cruiser within a week. Not that there is anything wrong with the Rover....ingress and egress are a breeze due to the high seat, it has decent speed, it is supremely comfy and the direct steering is great for sharp low-speed turns. For the recreational, relaxed rider it is a super buy.
However, I am in my mid-30s and wanted something that would cause lots less discomfort on my backside (and elsewhere) than my regular upright bike while still providing the speed and stability I crave. The Rover took care of the former but fell flat on the latter.
The problem is that this design isn't meant for those who truly like to fly. The high center of gravity and upright seating combine to make it very 'twitchy' at higher speeds. I even lifted the inside wheel numerous times on medium-speed turns during my first few rides. Exciting, yes, but in the wrong way!
So if you are more SUV than Sports Car,... Read more
